"Walking in Wisdom: Seeing the Path Ahead"

By Lady Yalanda Ricks

Scripture

Proverbs 4:7 AMP “The beginning of wisdom is: Get [skillful and godly] wisdom [it is preeminent]!And with all your acquiring, get understanding [actively seek spiritual discernment, mature comprehension, and logical interpretation].

Introduction

We are in a season when clarity and purpose are crucial. Many of us are striving, moving, and building, but are we doing so with wisdom? Aiming blindly, without discernment or a clear sense of direction, is not only unwise but can also be dangerous. Proverbs 4:7 reminds us that wisdom is foundational—it is the principal thing. Today, let’s explore how to use wisdom in all things, particularly in considering the season we are in and the direction God is calling us to.

4 points I want to address:

1. Recognize the Season You Are In

Ecclesiastes 3:1 tells us, "To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven." Knowing your season is the first step in walking wisely. Are you in a season of preparation, planting, or harvesting? Wisdom requires that we understand our current circumstances and align our actions accordingly.

  • If you are in a season of preparation, focus on building skills and deepening your relationship with God.

  • If you are planting, sow seeds of faith, hard work, and consistency.

  • If you are harvesting, steward what God has given you with gratitude and generosity.

Acting outside your season leads to frustration. Wisdom keeps you aligned with God’s timing.

2. Consult God Before Making Plans

Proverbs 3:5-6 encourages us to trust in the Lord with all our heart and lean not on our own understanding. When we move without seeking God, we are like an archer shooting at a target blindfolded. Success comes not from our efforts alone but from allowing God to guide our steps.

  • Pray for discernment.

  • Seek godly counsel.

  • Spend time in the Word for direction.

James 1:5 reminds us that if anyone lacks wisdom, they should ask God, who gives generously to all.

3. Aim with Purpose, Not Impulsivity

Luke 14:28 says, "For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost?" Wisdom requires planning, preparation, and foresight. It’s not enough to have a vision; we must take deliberate steps to bring it to pass.

  • Assess where you are now.

  • Identify the resources and steps needed to move forward.

  • Avoid distractions that pull you off course.

Blind ambition leads to burnout, but wisdom ensures sustainability.

4. Embrace Correction Along the Way

Proverbs 12:15 declares, "The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise." Wisdom is humble and teachable. As you move forward, be open to God’s correction and redirection.

God’s wisdom refines us, even in moments of failure or delay. Trust that He is working all things together for your good (Romans 8:28).

Conclusion: Aim with Wisdom

Wisdom lights the path before us. To aim blindly is to risk missing the mark entirely. But when we walk in wisdom, guided by God’s Word, attuned to His voice, and mindful of our season, we can move forward with clarity and purpose.

Ask yourself:

  • Am I moving with wisdom in this season?

  • Have I sought God’s direction for where I’m going?
